I'm Jessica. Welcome and thanks so much for taking the time to visit my site. I'm really glad you're here! Since you are here, you're probably a teacher or a parent. And, I am guessing that you are looking for some resources or ideas for teaching your kiddos. Lucky for you, that is exactly why I created Learning with Jessica Diaz. I wanted to share resources that I created for teaching kids!
You might be thinking, that sounds great, but who are you? Let me tell you.
I am a teacher and a mother of two, and I love making educational resources.

My Career Path
My career in education started when I got my Bachelors of Science in Education from Texas A&M University, with a certificate for Bilingual Education. After graduating, I was a pre-school teacher for 3 years.
I love learning and I wanted to know even more about teaching and education, so the next step in my career was graduate school. That was a pretty amazing experience - I never knew how much I could read in a short period of time! So, with a lot of reading and a lot of writing, I earned a Master's Degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Language and Literacy.
After grad school, I taught kindergarten reading for a year.
Then, I taught Spanish for for 4 years.
Now, I make educational resource, which is super awesome!
I feel like the path I have taken has been more of a winding road than a straight line. But, I wouldn't have it any other way. I've gotten to work with a lot of interesting people and learned a lot along the way!
My interests, right now, include teaching my kids Spanish and character development.
Let's talk about Spanish. Why do I want my kids to learn a 2nd language? Because it's awesome! ;) I think that learning a 2nd language can only benefit my kids, like...
- they can communicate with more people
- they can grow their brain power
- they can delay cognitive decline in their older years
- they can have more job opportunities (when they are adults)
- and it can make travel more fun (Anyone up for a trip to Puerto Rico?)
Now, let's tackle character development. Okay, I believe that character development is one of the most important things we can teach kids, and it's not often explicitly taught. I think we all want to teach our kids to be good people, so let's do it!
Here are a few of the reasons I want to teach my kids character development:
- they can develop a deep understanding of what it means to be a good person
- they will be able to grow into the best version of themselves
- they will be prepared to be good, responsible adults
- they will know themselves better and have a stronger understanding of why people do the things they do
- they will understand how to treat others with respect
Can reading and watching TV count as hobbies? I hope so, because those are mine.
I love reading fantasy novels - especially series. Some of my favorites include:
Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas
The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling
The Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer
I am a huge fan of comedies and shows that are just a little quirky. Here are some fun ones:
Parks and Rec
The Good Place
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
